Geocache Description:

Welcome to Arrowsmith Drive! Nestled in this quaint area, Arrowsmith Drive carries with it a legacy that harkens back to an era of profound faith and resilience. This street is named in honour of Sir Edmund Arrowsmith, a figure of great historical significance whose life and martyrdom left an indelible mark on history. Who was Sir Edmund Arrowsmith? Born Brian Arrowsmith around 1585, Sir Edmund was an English Roman Catholic priest during a time when Catholics faced severe persecution. Despite the dangers, he pursued religious training at the English College in Douai, France, and returned to England to minister to the secret Catholic community. His dedication to his faith led to his arrest in 1628, as being a Catholic priest was considered treasonous. Sir Edmund Arrowsmith was executed on August 28, 1628, in Lancaster, becoming a martyr for his beliefs. He was beatified in 1929 and canonized as one of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales in 1970. Why Arrowsmith Drive? Arrowsmith Drive is named to commemorate the courage and faith of Sir Edmund Arrowsmith. His story is a testament to the enduring human spirit and the fight for religious freedom. By visiting this geocache, you are not only enjoying a fun activity but also paying homage to a significant historical figure whose life story continues to inspire. Take a moment to reflect on the history surrounding this location and the legacy of Sir Edmund Arrowsmith as you embark on your geocaching adventure. Happy hunting!
