Sometimes, when you go out hiking, particularly in a place with the kind of beauty you can find at Kirstenbosch - the views, the incredible flora, and the sweet spots to stop, rest, snack, and enjoy the world - you can still be hit by something sad.
So when we found this gorgeous spot, a bench practically splitting a river in two, we had to stop and enjoy the moment, and figured it was the perfect place for a cache - and we also were hit with the sadness of a bench in memory of someone who died at the age of 28. It's too young, and a hard reminder of our own mortality, even though we were surrounded by the life of the gardens and our own families. What better way to honor the lives we have and the lives that end too young than drawing more people here to see this beautiful spot and find our cache!
Go find the bridge, take a moment to spare a thought for Angela and for all those you know who passed on too young, rest on the bench, then go searching!
We placed the cache the day after some heavy rains, and we all stayed quite dry placing it, so you shouldn't have to get wet to find it.
We also recommend you head up the hill - to your right as you are sitting on the bench - to get a beautiful view of Kirstenbosch and Cape Town and to grab another find, a clever multi-cache that will go way quicker than you thought!
