Vanillarivers Race To Rio

It seems like only two minutes ago since the whole country was preparing to withness the spectacle of the Olympic games being held in London in the summer of 2012.  With lots of events in the run up to the games, including the great 'Torch Relay' which pased through the area on its way down to the capital.

Here we are over 3 years later, with another city preparing to host the games... Rio De Janeiro.  This gave us an idea... a TB race to be 'dipped' in the Earthcache 'Corcovado' (GC347HZ, see reference waypoint) which is near the site of the world famous 'Christ The Redeemer' monument.  The owner of the first TB to be dipped there by the closing date of the Rio Olympics (21st August 2016) will win an unactivated geocoin.  (In the event that no TB makes it to Rio, the TB with the highest mileage recorded at 17:00 GMT on 21st August 2016 will be the winner.)

Here's the rules:

1) Bring a newly activated TB tag (or geocoin) to the event, the tag should be named 'Race to Rio... XXXX'  (replacing the X's with whatever name you like) The TB should have zero mileage at this point, you can attach any item you like to your tag.

2) Register the TB with us at the event where we'll equip it with a keyring giving a brief description of its mission and record the tracking code so we can keep an eye on entrants.

3) 'Dip' the TB into the event and then take it away with you to place in any cache you like within 50 miles of the event co-ords... this is the only opportunity you will have to influence the progress of your TB.  The TB should not be given to another cacher directly, and once placed into a cache you are not permitted to pick it up again at any point until the end of the race, doing so will result in disqualification. It is also not permitted to pick up any other entrants TB for the duration of the race..

Lannbots Birthday

When we learned that our caching buddy Leanne (Lannbot) would be turning a year older the day after the event, we though it would be nice to help her celebrate a day early and hold the event in her honour... There might even be cake! (OK, there'll definitely be cake!). Help us give Lann a memorable day.

Join us at the 'Fountain Bridge' restaurant on the A38 just outside Sutton-In-Ashfield and less than 5 minutes from J28 of the M1, where an unlimited carvery is served alongside a traditional menu.
