We regularly walk around the pit top together and so we've brightened up the walk with the treasure trail we placed. This place is known amongst some of the locals as Pride Rock. Excellent sledging! There's also a feature of the local sculpture trail and you should get the chance to explore this lovely gift from the miners to the local people, capture the views and probably manage your 10,000 steps. We did when placing them! This is a relatively steep hill. We did it with a pushchair with a hefty toddler and older kids on foot, no complaints. There are some stunning views and it's a lovely picnic spot.
This marks the fourth of a trail of geocaches we've placed as a family, a toddler in a pushchair and bigger kids on foot so it should give you a good idea of the ease of the whole terrain. There's great blackberry picking on this whole route, some lovely views and if you're lucky some cracking wildlife too. When placing this one we found blackberries, sloe berries, mushrooms, fish and frogs.
As you'll see on the rest of our geocaches there's a lot to be learned about the landscape, it's history and placement by the nearby villages of Harthill and Wales.
