2015 finds us celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)! You can find events, pledge donations, and see monthly themes online at adaanniversay.org.
To celebrate this anniversary, we’ve decided to place a handicache on the handicap-accessible Mill Springs Trail at Franklin Creek State Natural Area. Cache can be accessed without extendable reaching devices from a wheelchair position. Depending on a person’s mobility, an assistant may be needed; tweezers will maybe be needed for this one. Handicap parking is available at this geocache. NOTE: As a handicache, it is vital that you take note of where and how the cache is placed; please make sure to replace it exactly as found in order to keep the cache handicap accessible.
The Mill Springs Trail is a 1/3 mile paved wheelchair-accessible trail stretching from the parking lot and shelter at the Mill Spring Day Use Area of FCSNA to the actual Mill Springs (a natural spring that helps to feed Franklin Creek). You can also access the fishing pier via the trail, and you’ll be able to see additional springs bubbling in the Mill Pond. At the start of the trail, you can relax on the bench and read the newly-added information about the park and all it offers. A trail map station is nearby, too. No night caching, please be respectful of the park, and take care of your trash.
FCSNA Handicache has a handicache rating of H11111.
