The September equinox occurs the moment the Sun crosses the celestial equator – the imaginary line in the sky above the Earth’s equator – from north to south. This happens either on September 22, 23, or 24 every year. On the equinox, night and day are nearly exactly the same length – 12 hours – all over the world. This is the reason it's called an "equinox", derived from Latin, meaning "equal night".
Many cultures celebrate the fall harvest during this time. In the northern hemisphere, the Fall Equinox is on September 23 this year. This brief event will be to celebrate the cooler temperatures of autumn, which make it so much more fun to geocache. The event will be from 7:15 pm to 8:15 pm on the second floor of the historic Bethania Mill, in the Belle La Vie conference area. Please use the outside door across from the nearby cafe -- this will require climbing a few steps. I'll provide refreshments, door prizes, and a table for swapping trackables. Please log your "will attend" log so I'll know how many to prepare for. I look forward to meeting new folks and greeting long-time friends.
