This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: As there's been no cache to find for a long time or has had no owner response for at least 30 days, I'm archiving it to keep it from showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

Please note that if geocaches are archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ for lack of maintenance, they are not eligible for unarchival.

Description:
Fort DuPont State Park is a Delaware state park located in Delaware City, Delaware. Fort DuPont itself, named after Rear Admiral Samuel Francis duPont, was used as a military base from the Civil War through World War II, and was part of a three fort defense system, with Fort Delaware and Fort Mott with the purpose of protecting the Delaware River and the city of Philadelphia from naval attacks.

Fort DuPont State Park is situated along the Delaware River and Chesapeake and Delaware Canal. Fort DuPont is located just south of Delaware City off Route 9. The park features 322 acres along the scenic Delaware River and the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal. Open year-round, the park provides opportunities for passive recreation including picnicking, fishing, and hiking. A self-guided trail is available for visitors to explore the site's rich historic past. For those interested in more active recreation, the park provides both tennis and basketball courts.
