Geocache Description:

The Three Lochs Way

Linking Loch Lomond, The Gareloch and Loch Long
Stage 3: Garelochhead to Arrochar/Tarbet Station

This stretch of the Three Lochs Way is perhaps the most scenic. There are superb views up and down Loch Long as well as across to “The Hanging Valley of Coillessan Glen”. Red Deer are often seen on this stretch.

I can highly recommend the booklet “The Three Lochs Way” which is available at various Visitors’ Centres, from accommodation providers or online on their website. It has detailed and helpful information about distances, waypoints and coordinates as well as background information on the various points of interest.

Until recently, the path of The Three Lochs Way near Arrochar took you on a loop along the south side of the train tracks of the Highland train to Tarbet and to the "Arrochar and Tarbet" train station. From there, over to Arrochar again.

Thanks to great efforts of voluntary members of the Helensburgh & District Access Trust and their funding partners, a new path, a few hundred metres long, was established to link the TLW with the town of Arrochar. For those hiking the entire long distance trail and staying in Arrochar for the night, it means reducing the last 4.5 km to about 1 km. For the occasion of the official opening on the 22nd August 2015, we have placed a couple of new caches.
