Cowtown Down: A Stockyards Stroll
Fort Worth's historic stockyards are a huge tourist attraction, but the one-mile "stroll" to this cache will take you places few visitors have ever dared to go. The terrain is not physically demanding, but some areas may be muddy. Good hiking shoes, drinking water, and a dependable flashlight (with a backup or spare batteries) are definitely required. Although this cache does not require teamwork, I recommend bringing a friend.
Directions:
At the posted coordinates you’ll see a mural of the vaquero pictured above. If he were to continue riding the direction he's headed, he would cross the street, reaching a marked trailhead with a stairway leading down to the river. Park nearby and walk down those stairs. Turn right at the bottom to continue along the sidewalk with the water on your left.
After passing though the large tunnel, turn left when able in order to cross the river, then continue along the sidewalk with the river now on your right. Follow the sidewalk up and over the crest of a hill. You’ll then start to pass several tall, black lamp posts along the left edge of the walkway. Count the number of lamp posts you pass until you get to where the sidewalk hits a street. The number of posts = X. Now calculate A = X-1 and B = X-2.
You're now almost half-way to the cache. To get the rest of the way, turn right off the sidewalk before crossing the street and navigate to N 32° 47.14A W 97° 20.71B. Here, you will see a well-defined pathway heading north. The path is easy to follow, but your flashlight will be required. Follow this path all the way to its end. When you can go no further, you will be eight feet beyond the hidden container.
The cache is a micro, so BYOP. After signing the log, please roll it up and replace it in the top before screwing the top back into the base of the tube.
Congratulations to fatmatt86 and slimshadyjo1 for First-to-Find!
