Headingley Castle was built in 1846 and was owned in 1866 by cloth merchant Arthur Lupton (1809-1889) of the Lupton family, who were the paternal ancestors of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. It was the home from 1909 to 1943 of entrepreneur and art collector Frank Harris Fulford, and later used to house a school for the blind.
