On the morning of Saturday, Sept 26th there will be a number of us who will be going on a hike of the Chickadee Trail, located just west of Gwynne (east of Wetaskiwin). In the afternoon of the same day, we are also planning to go for a much shorter hike within the nearby Pipestone Creek Natural Area.
As there are a number of geocaches along both hikes, we were thinking of making this into a geocaching event. However, due to the rules of Groundspeak, an Event Cache should not be set up for the purpose of gathering geocachers for a geocache search. Thus, the main purpose of this geocaching event is to provide a lunch break between the morning and afternoon hikes. Even if you cannot join us for either the morning or the afternoon hike, we would love to have you join us for this lunch event.
This event is open to everyone, whether you are a C.A.C.H.E.r (Camrose & Area Cache Hunting Enthusiast) or joining us from well out of town. At our last event, we had non-local cachers joining us from as far away as Edmonton, Red Deer and Calgary. Come one, come all!!
For those who are thinking of coming for more than lunch, here's the full schedule of events of the day:
- 8:45am - arriving at the listed parking coordinates for the morning Chickadee Trail hike (we'll probably be starting our hike at around 9am)
- ~11:45am - finishing off the Chickadee Trail hike (i.e. back at the vehicles)
- 12:00pm - (start of GC631A0 event) meet at the posted coordinates of this event cache to have lunch (i.e. at the day use area at the nearby Coal Lake public campground)
- 12:45pm - (end of GC631A0 event) pack up and head over to the listed parking coordinates for the Pipestone Creek Natural Area hike
- 1:00pm - leaving from the Pipestone Creek trailhead
- 2:00pm - back to the cars and saying good-bye!
It should be noted that the Difficulty / Terrain rating for this event are 1/1. However, if you are planning to join us for the morning or afternoon hikes, you should expect the Terrain ratings to increase to the 2.5 to 3.0 range. Please plan on bringing decent hiking boots (no sandals or heels) and dress according to the weather (we don't want hypothermia for anyone here!).
