This cache takes you to visit a little-known 9/11 Memorial in the Presbyterian Cemetery in Downtown Lynchburg. From there you can take a short drive and stroll along one of Lynchburg's well maintained walking paths.
On September 11, 2001 at 08:46 am, American Airlines Flight 11 was hijacked and flown into the northern facade of the World Trade Center's North Tower (1 WTC). At 09:03 am United Airlines Flight 175 was hijacked and flown into the southern facade of the World Trade Center's South Tower (2 WTC).
After burning for 56 minutes, the South Tower collapsed at 09:59 am. The North Tower collapsed at 10:28 am after burning for 102 minutes. When the North Tower fell, debris damaged and started fires in the adjacent 7 World Trade Center Building (7 WTC) which eventually was completely destroyed.
In all 2,606 victims in New York City perished. Of American Airlines Flight 11, there were 92 fatalities (including 5 hijackers). On United Airlines Flight 175, 65 people perished (including 5 hijackers). 411 emergency workers responding to the World Trade Center were killed when the towers collapsed; these include 343 firefighters, 60 police officers, and 8 emergency medical technicians and paramedics.
