Airy's Legacy Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

gazooks: Sadly I'm going to Archive this cache. [:(]
I was going to change it from a Trad to a Multi but on the advice of the moderators it will be easier to archive this one and create a new one.

So watch this space for a new cache. [:)]

Geocache Description:

Just off a footpath near the small village of Hardwick. The cache is hidden down a footpath off of a bridle way on the Hardwick Millennium Walk. The full walk is 8.6 miles although it can be broken down into smaller walks.

Cache is a camouflaged, 1.5 litre click 'n click box. Cache is reasonably well hidden but the good GPS coverage should take you straight to it. Please ensure it is well hidden when you leave. There are nice views on a sunny day. The footpath runs from Hardwick to Caldecote, and is a nice walk from either end, although the cache is much closer to Hardwick. There's a Greene King pub in Hardwick, for those who need refreshment before or after caching.

The cache is on Airy's meridian- which should line up with the cross hairs in his telescope at Greenwich. If you set your GPS to OSGB datum (but keep hours degrees minutes) you'll note that the cache should lie on the meridian. The placing of this cache was inspired by the large number of people who were confused as to why an OS "Meridian" marker did not lie on the WGS84 Meridian.

Why not try other caches along the Millenium walk - Millenium Meander to the east and Millenium Meander II to the west.

The Original ammo box cache contains (June 2002): OS Map of Cambridge area (sheet 154), a copy of Garmin Mapsource Europe CD, WAGN train times booklet, 3 "dance" CDs, a Paragliding Video CD- sort of travel bug, a can of Coke, torch, alarm clock, Ilford 36EXP 125ASA black and white film, 8AA batteries, several balls from a physics project, a log book and pen, bottle opener and the Piglet Travel Bug.
