On leaving cache #7 you will continue up the wide track. As you reach the edge of the woods, the footpath bears to the left, and becomes narrower but flat. It is likely to be muddy during the winter months, but a definite improvement on where you have just been. You are looking for a regular sized cache here.

Generic Series Information:
The Matthew's Wood series of 11 caches takes the cacher in a loop which can be done in its' own right, or as an extension of the Thickridge Eight series. If done on its' own, parking is available in the lay-by at the top of Ford Hill. Please be aware that this is not a good road for pedestrians, and the section between #9 and #10 takes you along this road, with no footway. I would suggest that it is unsuitable for dogs or young children. The wooded section of the route between #4 and #8 contains steep rough paths that can be extremely muddy and treacherous in the winter, and the section from #4 to #6 has a poorly defined path with the remains of logging activities strewn around. This is not for the faint-hearted, and sturdy walking boots are recommended. #6 is likely to require wellies. The remainder of the route is across mostly flat fields and a quiet lane.
No caches are hidden in or on dry stone walls, so please take care not to disturb these in any way. Some fields may contain cattle or sheep, so please ensure that you keep your dog on a lead. If you bring a dog, in the unlikely event of cattle chasing you should release your dog and allow him to run away. I have always found them to be very friendly.
