Geocache Description:

Solve easy quizz and go for a hiking to a beautiful mountain.

👑 The Crown of Prenj

According to SummitPost.org, Prenj mountain is for sure one of the most beautiful and most impressive mountain range in Bosnia & Herzegovina and whole Dinaric Alps. Prenj is more than mountain, Prenj is the Kingdom of incredible divine mountain beauty!

We cannot agree more. Prenj is often described as the Bosnian Himalaya - rich in mountaineering history, endemic species, and providing the largest variety of mountaineering challenges.

It's relief is one of the most exciting in the region. There dominate sharp and elegant peaks, impressive ridges, beautiful valleys and other amazing alp-likes forms. Prenj massif has at least 11 peaks over 2000 m of which one, Windy Peak, was climbed first time in October 2003, probably as one of Europe's last virgin 2000 m peak.

Summit details

And if Prenj is the Kingdom, it should have its coronated head somewhere. And really - the highest peak of Prenj massive is Zelena Glava (transl. Green Head) that looks like giant crown from certain views. We are inviting you to climb this peak to see all Prenj on a palm of your hand.

Panorama from Zelena Glava

To find the geocache you would need to solve very easy quizz and then just hike to the top of Zelena Glava peak. By the way, the height of peak is quite mysterious number, because we've seen altitudes like 2115 metres or even 2155 metres, both in terrain, literature and in the maps. Nevertheless, I tend to believe my GPSr measurement that shown 2103 metres on the top. It is only 1 meter more than reported altitude of Lupoglav and 6 metres more then Otiš peak, which is right next to Zelena Glava and you can combine it in one hiking trip, like we did.

Access

Zelena Glava and Otiš are in the heart of the mountain, so 1-day long hike can be quite challenging for your physical condition. I can only recommend to start at Rujište mountain pass and spend a weekend, or few more days here and book a night at planinarski dom Bijele Vode or in smaller chalet Jezerce. It is also possible to camp next to these basecamps. We slept in Jezerce chalet and made a round-hiking using marked trails to reach summits of Zelena Glava and Otiš.

Unfortunately, the Mines are still a serious issue on Prenj. The Eastern half of Prenj witnessed a series of battles leaving a serious mine risk in the area east of a north-south line running through Zelena Glava and Velika Kapa. However if you'll stay on marked and used trails, you'll be safe. You will see information boards and tapes once you'll go through risky zones.
