On the ascent to Mangerton summit, we couldn't help but notice this stone, or stage, platform, dais, grandstand, built for the Poser that's inbuilt into us all.
So please, on your way up - or down - step off the path, look for the cache, strike a pose and take a photo, the rock is waiting for you.... and you know you want to!!
We've posted a few to get you started.
The cache itself is a small bottle tucked safely under the rock.
Mangerton North Top and South Top summits provide a relatively moderate walk, yet the views on a clear day are spectacular. To the north, Lough Leane, Muckross Lake and Killarney Town. To the west, the MacGillycuddy’s Reeks.
The cache can be retrieved without reaching either summit, but it is worth it for the extra little bit of effort, with spectacular views of Lough Erhogh and The Devil’s Punch Bowl. The summits themselves are featureless, but the panoramic view is breath taking on a clear day.
It would be adviseable to purchase OS Map 78 to help ensure a safe trip, any shop or garage in Killarney will have a copy.
