Patrick A. Lucero Letterbox Letterbox Hybrid

This cache has been archived.

LeewayeDiscGolf: Picked this one up today. For those curious about the stamp's future it may continue on as a Postal. You wouldn't believe the amount of logs and messages stating that there is nothing at the coordinates. A letterbox hybrid gives you a starting point and you follow clues to the actual hide. A significant amount of the clue locations are no longer available including the old Safeway. Plus the location hours aren't always available due to Covid closures. Thanks to everyone that took the time to find this one. You guys are awesome! The stamp was actually still here and the cache looks as pristine as it did the day we placed it. And a huge thanks to the library and staff. You guys are awesome too!

Geocache Description:

Depending on your navigational abilities this should take you between 10 - 30 minutes to complete. You will only travel a few miles. Don't let the 'Letterbox Hybrid' scare you.

This cache is a geocache / letterbox hybrid, meaning you will follow clues from the coords to the container. There is a stamp in the container to stamp your letterbox passport with. (Do Not take the stamp!) There is also a pad for you to leave your stamp, as well as a geocaching log book.

Cache is only available from 10am to 7pm Monday - Thursday and 10am to 6pm Friday and Saturday. There is no way to access it at any other time. Please be very stealthy between 3 and 5pm on weekdays as this spot is flooded with school kid muggles.

Clear lock and lock container started with and should at all times contain : hand-carved letterbox stamp wrapped in felt in a Ziplock baggie, geocache log book, letterbox logbook with blank pages for stamping, information on both geocaching and letterboxing, and a notecard with the stamp's image and cache name on it.

This cache was placed for 3 reasons. Reason 1 being that Pueblo, CO had no letterbox hybrid caches at all. Reason 2 being that this particular section of town has very little cache activity or caches. And reason 3 is to bring you to a place a lot of you might not even know was here and to learn the history behind it. ( Cache is placed with the permission and support of said location.)

Patrick A. Lucero was native to the East Side of Pueblo, CO. He attended and graduated from East High School, Class of 1966. After which, he voluntarily joined the Army and spent much of 1967 in Vietnam.

At 19 years old his year-long tour was almost over when he was killed in Ba Long Province on March 14th, 1968. He is listed on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on panel 44E, row 48. There is a sister site to this cache's location in his honor in Ba Long Province, Vietnam. (If you run into Diann, be sure and ask her about it. She has actually visited the site and was kind enough to provide this photo.)
Mr. Lucero is buried in the Roselawn Cemetery in Pueblo, CO. Pueblo City Council stated "... his life is symbolic of values emblematic of Pueblo, including our community's connection to veterans, an emphasis on education, particularly involving international relations, compassion and forgiveness, and a hero who gave his life for his country."

LETTERBOX CLUE:

There is nothing at the starting coords but your starting point. From there you will need to find the street that is the past tense of eat. Upon locating this street please head towards sunrise for a little less than Denver, CO's elevation. Watch for a stoplight that features the sport that uses sticks with nets at the end to throw a small ball into a goal. You must now take the safe way. All others routes are dangerous and full of peril. Be careful not to La Crosse the Monument or you have gone too far. Remember to stick to the safe way. If you stayed on the safe way and didn't wander, you should see a flag pole nearby, usually flying the American Flag. Head over to the flag pole. After arriving here, and if you arrived at 10am - 7pm on Monday - Thursday or at 10am - 6pm on Friday and Saturday look for Patrick A. Lucero. Once you have located him, please do not bother him. Instead seek out his secretary and ask for the geocache or letterbox. He or she will gladly turn over that which you are looking for. (If they don't know what you are talking about, ask for Diann or Catherine and state your request to them.) This placement was done on purpose and with permission to create a very secure, long-lasting cache.

The stamp is LeewayeDiscGolf's first attempt at carving his own stamp and is inspired by the photo that goes with panel 44E, row 48 on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Please make sure the stamp is left in the cache. DO NOT TAKE IT!

*Bring Your Own Ink / Stamp Pad and Pen!

Feel free to explore the location and enjoy.
