Geocache Description:

Located within Ponderosa State Park

THIS IS A TRADING CACHE ! Up Date: Monday July 15th 2002. The cache was near a lightning strike about a week ago. Firefighters found the cache when they were culling out the tree it was in. The cache is fine and the firefighters even signed the log and exchange items in the cache. They left some cool stuff. I've moved the cache a little more north and east of the fire site. Many thanks go out to the Park Rangers and Southern Idaho Protective Timber Association for thier heroic work in saving valued and beautiful State Park land. Also Thanks to Logscaler for letting me know what had happened. The park sits on a peninsula that is approximately 1000 acres. The lookout point is 300 feet higher than the rest of the park, over a mile high. Prior to the last ice age 15,000 years ago, basaltic cliffs were created by volcanic activity forming Payette Lake, and most of the surrounding lakes. Geologists belive the peninsula extended the lake to the west side, but was cut off by an advancing glacier. The entry fee to the park is $3.00 Because the overview point has a lot of visitors the cache is located just north and east of the site.
