Geocache Description:

Cache is located in Ponderosa State Park

THIS IS A TRADING CACHE: Cache is located by Payette Lake a little walk from a walking/mountain bike trail that loops through the park. You'll find the Huckleberry Bay trail head just a little past the visitors center. From there it's about a mile to the bay. There are Huckleberry patchs just up from the shoreline north and south, late summer being the time to pick. Nothing like huckleberry pancakes in the morning ! Early morning and early evening are great times to see Elk, Moose and Deer that come down to the lake to water. From the cache site look north along the shoreline and you'll see a few Osprey nests on top of old snags. If you go swimming you'll want to wear sandals as the basalt rocks can be a tad bit sharp. This cache really needs to be re-hidden well as it is close to a well traveled trail. Park entry fee is $3.00 and the cache area is in a day use only area. If you plan to stay in the park be sure to call ahead for a spot as the summer months are quite busy.
