Geocache Description:

Cache is not at posted coordinates. You must dance the Jig first

Last Year I went on a holiday trip to Ireland. I loved it. Every part of Ireland is fantastic. There is the amazing scenery ... from the vista of Cork Harbour, seen from Cobh at St Colman's Cathedral, right over to the Port of Belfast as seen from the Groomsport Tourist Information centre.

Then there are the beautiful people and their impressive history that really puts us Aussies in our place. And royalty! From the first King after the Crown of Ireland Act was passed in 1542 up till the final one in 1949 after the formation of the Irish Free State. Impressive history, lovely people.

And of course the food, and drink - not so much potatoes these days, but plenty of Salmon and Herrings - especially in the west, and much Mutton or Lamb, particularly in the North. And plenty to drink yes, there's a county beer in most parts of the country, generally quite a strong dark beer. And whisky - I've particularly developed a love of whisky due to my love of coffee. Irish Coffee is delicious! This is the Irish Coffee recipe we were taught:

But most of all I think I loved the music and dance. Often lively - although a slower more reflective song is common enough - it is the spirited Jigs that I recall the most. You know a Jig has ended once the container is put down. I got the chance to write my own Jig actually, as part of the tour, and we played it on a violin. This was my attempt at writing and playing a little Jig. Click on it to hear (on some smartphones it may not play, you may need to use a computer).

The humour of the Irish is often glossed over by us foreigners - they love a laugh, and a joke, as much or more than most. The much vaunted Irish Joke is as funny from an Irish-voice as any dialect. And speaking of dialects - the Gaelic language when spoken fluently is the prettiest sound on the planet. They would especially laugh at the way the coordinates to this geocache are right here in front of you.

The quadrille will be by NeverLostAu tonight
