Geocache Description:

A mini-series in Parkwood Springs, Sheffield: A nano, two micros and a small geocache leading to a regular-sized bonus cache.

Parkwood Springs is an interesting and hilly green space overlooking the City of Sheffield. It contains woodland and heath, open parkland and a range of natural habitats. There are spectacular views over the city centre as well as the suburbs and the distant moors of the Peak District.

I was surprised to see that while the site boasts many interesting features such as a viewing platform, sculptures, two areas of 'ancient woodland' and two Sites of Special Scientific Interest for geologically important stone types, before now it contained absolutely no geocaches!

So, I decided to set this right and place a short series of five geocaches of various sizes. Each of them should be a little harder to find than the average cache, but then again they're not too fiendish so just keep your eyes peeled.

This is the first in the series - the nano (although you can find the first four in any order). It's camouflaged and placed near the Boy and the Bird sculpture, made by local artist Jason Thomson. The sculpture was erected in 2008 and has now rusted into its distinctive colour. The bird is (probably) a Kestrel, reflecting those which nest and fly in the Parkwood Springs area. On the bird's back is a young boy wearing big gloves, possibly reflecting those worn by the workmen in the heavy industries Sheffield is associated with. It is made from cast iron.

Please bring your own pen to sign the log sheet. A pair of tweezers to extract the log might also be a good idea.

On the log sheet is a letter and number which you need to make a note of in order to find the bonus cache in this series. Happy finding!
