Parking for our cache #8 is at N44d 55.115, W78d 38.728 in the Snowden Park Wetland and Forest Preserve, Haliburton, Cty. It is an ammo box with coloured tape on it.
What's in a Fen?
Our Fen Geocache is NOT in the fen because as the brochure available at the 'donations box' states "Fens and bogs take centuries to develop. We ask that you observe from the edge. Aside from the damage one can do by disturbing this very sensitive habitat, there is an element of risk in walking on a quaking peat mat!"
But boardwalks, beaver dams and a viewing platform are always enjoyable and upland trails make good hiding spots.
Please stay on trails as cache is within 10 feet and no bushwacking is necessary.
You will find the usual trinkets and log book, and probably 2 Geocaching explanation sheets but as always the real treasure is discovering this unique spot.
HINT:
To avoid waking up the mosquitos, take the left hand path-not the direct path across the beaver dam. Every footfall crossing on the beaver dam awakens hundreds of the things and they ALL follow you. Cross the beaver dam on your return when you can make a run for your vehicle.
