Geocache Description:

A nano cache located in the public area near the church of St. Peter & St. Paul, Chatteris. Chatteris is a small but expanding market town lying in the heart of Fenland district of Cambridgeshire between Ely, March and Huntingdon. Cache difficulty increased due to possible high muggle activity.

There has been a church on this site since 1162 but only parts of the church dating back to the mid 14thC are still standing. The church that you see today is mainly Victorian but it incorporates the 14thc West tower and the nave arches. The extensive restoration took place in 1909 -10 at which time the pitched roof was restored and new aisles added. In 1935, a two manual (two keyboard) Hanson & Harrison organ was installed, a fine example of a pneumatic action instrument. Later additions include the Bricstan Room. The West tower has a slightly irregular shape due to a stairway hidden inside the south-east buttress and is surmounted by a clock, a little spire, and a battlemented parapet that comes up into pyramidal pinnacles on the corners. The big east window, which acts as the war memorial for the parish.depicts Christ in the centre surrounded by a host of angels and figures carrying the flags of the Allies, led by France and Britain. The church is proudly multi -denominational with each group worshipping in its own style, so meeting the needs of the local population.

TO LOCATE THE FINAL CACHE you need to go to the posted coordinates where you will find a small metal plate mounted in tne wall, low dowm to the right of the church door. This is a Flush Bracket Benchmark.

A Flush Bracket Benchmark is a metal plate, often bearing the "OSBM" (Ordnance Survey Benchmark) mark and a unique serial number, that serves as a precise reference point for measuring height above sea level. Fixed directly into structures like buildings, walls, or triangulation pillars, these benchmarks provide a stable datum for surveyors and were a critical part of the national mapping network, though they are largely superseded by modern GNSS technology.

TO CALCULATE THE FINAL COORDINATES YOU MEED TO FIND THE FIVE NUMBERS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PLATE.

THESE WILL BE ABCDE,

THE CACHE CAN BE FOUND AT

N52 (E - A)(C -A-A).((D - E)(C -A -A)(D - E)

E0 BE.BA(E - A)
