The cache is located at the historic Square Edge building, in the centre of Palmerston North. It is located outdoors, in the courtyard to the rear of the building. The courtyard can be accessed either through the Square Edge building from the front entrance, or via Jersey Lane to the rear. There is ample public parking nearby. The courtyard is open daytime including weekends but the gate is locked at night. If the gate is locked, you can often still access via the front door of the Square Edge building through the art gallery/ café.
From Palmerston North City Council’s web site:
“Square Edge has been the focus of artistic talent in Palmerston North for over 25years. It is conveniently located in the southern corner of the Square, next to All Saints [church] and the Manawatu Standard. The building was previously Palmerston North City Council chambers and it has retained much of its 1945 style, with polished wooden floors, ornate ceilings and an art deco facade. Square Edge is home to a number of artists' studios, shops, art galleries and performance/rehearsal spaces. The Galleries exhibit the work of emerging local artists. The two galleries operated by Community Arts are located on the ground floor, adjacent to shops, a dealer gallery, a UCOL furniture showroom and a Cafe. Exhibitions change frequently and works are often for sale".
The courtyard to the rear hosts the Arts Recycling Centre, the Green Bike Trust workshops, art and craft spaces, a dance studio, outdoor seating and more. People in those groups are aware of the geocache.
The GPS will take you to the courtyard area and with the buildings nearby you might have to use your geo-nose to find the cache. People doing swaps please exchange something of equal or greater value. Something personalised and interesting is more important than dollar price. Please replace the cache exactly as you found it; thanks.
Many thanks McKaz and Jaime Ridge of the City Library for your help with the setting up.
And congratulations markhnz, F2F!
