NO NIGHT CACHING
A thank you cache honoring the Pike Township Trustees & maintenance workers who still respectfully care for the Aetna Winameg Cemetery... Likewise for all other cemetery final resting places for burial remains, gravestones, interment grounds & beauty of landscaping; to those who keep these grounds well tended you indeed are history guardians of death, life, & hope & we thank you...
The Aetna Cemetery, as it was first named, occupies land deeded to J.J. Wilkinson in 1835. The first burial at this site was that of Catharine Wilson in 1837. Catharine was a sister of Emery and Martin Wilson, they being among the first settlers of Pike Township in Fulton County, Ohio.
This rural cemetery evolved from the small one acre family plot, deeded to the township trustees in 1885 with additions following in 1908, 1938, 1964 and 1977.
In 1881 the United Brethren constructed a building on the west side of the road and north, known as the Beulah Church. The old section of the Winameg Cemetery is believed to contain some unmarked graves.
Please be respectful of the area, and observe their rules & posted hours - typically sunrise to sunset,
as you search for a micro matchstick container...
The "SQ" in the cache name above signifies Spirit Quest, a project by the Northwest Ohio Geocachers to distinguish those caches that are set in cemeteries and memorial gardens.
