Geocache Description:

La Retraite, 1987, by Paul Wager - the medium is steel.

At the cache site, you will be able to admire fine views of the Charnwood Forest in one direction and will be able to see a Eurofighter through the window of the Stewart Millar building in the other direction.


This cache is hidden near to the Sir David Davies Building and the Stewart Millar Building.

SIR DAVID DAVIES BUILDING

This building is part of the complex designed by Arup Associates and opened in the 1970s. Named after the fifth Vice Chancellor of Loughborough University, Sir David Davies (1988-1993). This large building houses the Departments of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Mathematical Sciences and Physics. At the end of the building you can admire the fine view of the Charnwood Forest and Holywell Park with Ford College in the foreground. The wood over to the left is the ‘Outwoods’, named because it was outside of the medieval Loughborough Park. 

The sculpture is La Retraite, 1987, by Paul Wager, the medium is steel.

On the other side of the road is the Stewart Miller Building.

STEWART MILLER BUILDING

Opened in 2000, it was named after Dr Stewart Miller, Chairman of Loughborough University Council from 1995 until his death in 1999. Working for Rolls Royce for most of his professional life he rose to be the main Board Director of Engineering in 1985. In 1991 he became Managing Director of the Aerospace Group. During that period he had overall responsibility for the production of the RB211 series and the Trent series of engines. This building houses the Department of Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering. If you look through the curved glass section you will see a Euro Fighter.
