The Fortress/Tower of Barad Eithel was built early in the First Age by Fingolfin, High King of the Noldor. The fortress, which was situated on the eastern slopes of the Ered Wethrin above Ethel Sirion, served a two-fold purpose by guarding a strategic mountain pass into Fingolfin's realm of Hithlum, while also overlooking the Plains of Ard-Galen (beyond which was located Morgoth's fortress of Angbad).
Noldorian forces successfully defended Barad Eithel and the Pass of Hithlum during the Dagor Bragollach (Battle of Sudden Flame, First Age 455), however, following this battle Fingolfin challenged Morgoth to single combat and was slain before the Gates of Angbad. Barad Eithel was briefly besieged in FA 462, before Morgoth's forces were routed and pursued across the now-blackened Plains of Anfauglith by Hurin of the Edain. The fortress served as the staging point for the western forces of the Noldor under Fingon during the Nirnaeth Arnoediad (Battle of Unnumbered Tears, FA 472), where Fingon was slain and the Noldor were all but utterly vanquished.
The cache is located within the foundation of the tower. Travel Bug for FTF! Pencil in cache but BYOP just in case. Ample parking available right at the GZ. Muggles are about during weekdays, so please be discreet.
