The Brunswick United Methodist Church is the oldest church in Medina County, and the second oldest in the Western Reserve. It was founded in 1817 when the Reverend Jacob Ward, a Methodist minister, moved to the area and assembled a parish community of 13 members. They met in homes and an old log school house 1/4 mile west of the town center.
In November of 1830, John and Lucy Stearns donated 2 acres of land to the Brunswick trustees to be used as a burying ground (the current Westview Cemetery). A small plot on this land was given to the Methodist Church for a meeting house.
In February of 1871, the congregation decided to build a new house of worship. A month later, land was purchased at the present site, and construction of the new church began. It was completed at a cost of about $10,000 which included the cost of the land, the building, and its furnishings. The church was ready to be used for services the following year.

Over the years, there have been many renovations and expansions to the church, but the character of the original building is reflected in the current structure. Two stained glass windows were installed in a 1916 remodeling, and those windows are still in place in the sanctuary today.
