Geocache Description:

GPS is JUMPY, please refer to hint
The Bowen Aqueduct is built in 1885-1887, it was officially named for memorial of Governor Sir George Bowen who undertook the commencement of Tai Tam Water Works Scheme.

The aqueduct was an integral part of Tai Tam Reservoir which is the second oldest and the largest reservoir built on Hong Kong Island. It runs for about 3 miles (4.8km) along Bowen Road from one end (Stubbs Road)to the other end (Magazine Gap Road).
Aqueduct is a channel for supplying water. Construction of Bowen aqueduct was completed in 1888. It began its historical mission to convey constant fresh water from Tai Tam reservoir to the City of Victoria. Bowen Aqueduct has been abandoned for many decades following the replacement by the modern water supply system in 1950s.
Winding Quietly its way along the hillside of Wan Chai and Happy Valley, Bowen Aqueduct, named by Colonial administrators in the early Colonial years, delineates today's Bowen Road which is used popularly as a pedestrian walkway or joggers' trail. The conduit is built in level lengths a drop of some 6 inches being made about every 229 m. It includes eight aqueducts of more than one span, in one case 21 arches. there are altogether 98 bridges and culverts. The conduit passes through a spur of hill at one place, as there was a likelihood of a slip, the conduit was taken through in a red brick tunnel. The 21-Arch Section was declared as monument under the 22 Historical Structures of Tai Tam Group of Reservoirs in 2009.
The Bowen Aqueduct is an example of Victorian civil engineering heritage. The construction of masonry arches in the waterworks was indeed an integration of engineering work and aesthetics.

GPS will lead you to the Bowen Road Temporary Playground, where you will be able to have a glimpse at the structure of the aqueduct, the granite beams on stone corbels supporting an exposed red brick at one span over a ravine. (see photo)
