Welcome to one of the most haunted locations on the Central Coast. This spot is eerie enough during the day, but with so many ghost stories and local lore surrounding this old cemetery, I felt obligated to challenge a few brave geocachers to come up here at night and add this smiley. Come alone if you dare.
Every local (young and old alike) that has ventured out on this cemetery trail at night, have their own story of strange paranormal experiences. Some are not so hard to believe either. After all, this hallowed hill has been harboring Cambria's deceased since the early 1800s.
The majority of these experiences and encounters seem to have occurred where you'll begin your trek, on the northeast side of the graveyard near the woods. This is where the children’s graves are located. Multiple accounts of playful laughter, giggling and ringing bells have been reported in this area.
One of the cemetery's most famous residents is old James "Uncle Mac" McFerson. McFerson was strangled to death in a bar fight at the local Camozzie's Saloon in the summer of 1910. Some that have stood over his grave have reported feeling an overwhelming chill run through their body and others, a tightening around their necks.
Some other notable stories are; the antique wooden wheelchair rolling around in the dark, the old dog that whimpers and limps around before vanishing into thin air, floating orbs and dark apparitions that seem to stand in the woods staring back at people with yellow eyes.
Come out and grab this cache and you might come back with some stories of your own. (Emphasis on "might come back"...)
To locate this haunted hide; STAND AT THE POSTED COORDINATES AND LOOK AROUND with your flashlight until you spot some FireTacks. The starting point is marked by double tacks, one atop the other. Head in the direction of the reflective tacks until you see another single tack and another and another and so on, leading you through the graveyard. You'll know you've arrived at GZ once you spot 3 sets of double tacks in the same area. The cache is in this vicinity. Good luck!
