Geocache Description:

The Realm of Doriath was a forested region of central Beleriand.  It was the kingdom of Elu Thingol, High King of the Sindar in Beleriand, who ruled it from Menengroth (the Thousand Caves). 

Though it enjoyed peace for thousands of years, Morgoth's forces brought war to the borders of Doriath before the arrival of the Noldor, and following their arrival, war never fully ceased. However, Doriath was protected by the Girdle of Melian (of the Maia) and by skilled Sindarin warriors, including Beleg Strongbow and Mablung of the Heavy Hand. Nevertheless, Elu Thingol was later slain by the Naugrim craftsmen from Nogrod, who stole the Nauglamir (which contained one of the three Silmarils). The Naugrim were pursued to the death and vanquished, and the Nauglamir was recovered.  Following the death of Elu Thingol, Melian withdrew her protection from Doraith and departed Belriand forever.  Menengroth was then sacked, first by the Dwarves of Nogrod and later by the sons of Feanor, who slew Dior (son of Thingol) in their desire for the Silmaril.  The Kingdom of Doriath was utterly destroyed, and the remnants of its people fled to the Havens of Sirion.  Following the War of Wrath, the forests of Doriath were broken and sank into the sea, along with much of Beleriand.

The cache container is camouflaged.  Please replace as good as or better than found. Some PI (Toxicodendron radicans) and thorns around, but can be avoided. BYOP. Plenty of parking near the GZ.  Muggles are about, especially on weekdays, so please be discreet.    Enjoy!
