Geocache Description:

Sassafras Mountain is the highest point in South Carolina at 3,533 feet according to a recent survey. The mountain is actually shared by North Carolina so by standing at the peak you will be in two states! On a very clear day you will also be able to see into Georgia and Tennessee. For many years the peak was left untouched, but there is currently a giant project underway to develop a viewing area, picnic area, and other amenities at the top.

The cache is located just off the peak down the Foothills Trail that links many mountains throughout the Upstate of South Carolina and parts of western North Carolina. I wanted to place a cache at the highest possible point for a physical hide. If you look on top of the nearby rocks you will find a metal marker showing the state line passes right through this area. So this cache is barely in South Carolina. Enjoy the view and feel free to add lots of pictures!
