Geocache Description:

Celebrating the recent discovery of Homo naledi, a new cousin to humanity, which features a very humanlike lower body, and a distinctly apelike upper body.

After a walk along a well maintained portion of the sandspruit, you may find this cache. If your upper body is not apelike enough, you may need some gear and a buddy or two to safely access this cache.

Homo naledi is an extinct species of hominin, provisionally assigned to the genus Homo. In 2013, fossil skeletons were found in South Africa's Gauteng province, in the Dinaledi Chamber of the Rising Star Cave system, about 800 meters southwest of Swartkrans, part of the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site. As of September 2015, fossils of at least fifteen individuals, amounting to 1550 specimens, have been excavated from the cave.
