Queensway Methodist Church
There has been a Methodist chapel in Bletchley since 1813, when a small chapel was constructed in the High Street at a cost of £688 13s 4d. Within a century however and despite a complete refurbishment of the chapel in 1882 an alternative site for a new chapel was sought out. In 1907 the trustees of the Bletchley Methodist Chapel purchased land closer to the new centre of Bletchley, on Bletchley Road, where plans were drawn up to build a church that could seat 350 people.

Constructed between July and November 1909 the door opening ceremony was carried out by the chair of the trustees Mr J Turney, using a silver key inscribed with his name and the date. In 1966 this key was restored to the church by Mr Turney's daughter and is now stored in the church safe. In 1912 the original church hall (pictured above, left) was sold to Barber's Picture Palaces, and became a focal point for troops billeted nearby and community campaigns during the First World War.
In 1919 a new building was erected behind the new Methodist Church, and it was during World War 2 that this became a refugee reception centre to house evacuees from London before homes were found for them in the community. Bunks were installed and children's clothes collected here for distribution. Due to the influx of evacuees the town of Bletchley rapidly expanded and in the 1950s the church was used as an expansion of the junior school nearby, which was struggling to find space for lessons.
In 1960 work began on a Sunday School hall next to the Methodist Church to help ease this pressure, and this is the church hall that can be seen next to the church today. The hut behind the church was burned down in an arson attack in 1971. In 1966 Bletchley Road was renamed Queensway, and from then on the church became known as the Queensway Methodist Church.
