This is a series of caches at or nearby sites that my geodog, Redtail, visited as a certified therapy dog. Redtail is my golden retriever who loves to geocache with me. He’s got a nose for a cache and knows when to sit and stay while I sign the log. He is exceptionally sweet and kind. When he was a puppy Mr. Redtail2000 and I promised that we would get him certified as a therapy dog. Admittedly, he had to take Canine Good Citizenship twice because during the final exam he jumped on the instructor… but only because he loved her so much. Those goldens sure do love to be a puppy! Finally at the mature age of eight, he’s made the ranks as a therapy dog certified by the Southwest Canine Corps of Volunteers. Now I get to share with you some of the more poignant events that occurred during our visits. Please always be mindful and respectful of your surroundings when caching at these sites.
Redtail and I visit Casa Palo Duro, a nursing home/assisted living facility once a month in conjunction with a visit to Aspen Care the same morning since they’re only three minute drive from each other in residential neighborhoods. Redtail really likes coming here because they’ve got carpet and at home we have a brick floor. We’ve gotten to know the staff as well as several family members that stop by regularly to see their loved ones. Everybody lights up when we stop by to visit as Redtail makes his way into the living room with his tail wagging. We try to make sure that all of the residents have their own special time with Redtail. They’re always so happy to give him treats and he loves it too so it’s a win win. I noticed that everyone always has some of the best nail polish colors as well as fancy designed nails too. All of the residents in this house are women so they get a bit girly with the nail polish. One of the ladies is a late riser so we saw her in her room. She said that she had just woken up and wasn’t thrilled so thank you for making my day more tolerable. I thanked her for making my day.
