Geocache Description:

Welcome to Hell....Hell, Michigan that is....

Perhaps one of the best-known small towns in Michigan, Hell was established in 1841. No one is really quite sure exactly how the town got its name, but there are three theories. One story says two German visitors to the area remarked the town was "So schön hell!" (So beautifully bright!)

The other two theories are a bit more fun. One states the local farm and grist mill that used to be in the area used to pay its workers in whiskey. The popular saying among wives at the time was that their "Husbands had gone to Hell again."

My favorite theory concerns town founder George Reeves. Legend has it the locals asked his opinion on a name. He supposedly responded: "I don't know, you can call it Hell for all I care!"

Whatever the case may be, the name stuck and Michigan's Hell now draws visitors from all over the world. And yes, every once in a while, it does freeze over! This cache is hidden with the permission of the property owners. They are happy to have you here and know what you are doing. They also assisted in the placement of this cache and will be helping keep a watchful eye on this one.

This cache is also locked in place with a cable lock, so it should be darn near muggle-proof. You are looking for an ammo can that I have custom painted specifically for Hell. Be sure to bring a camera, as there are many photo opportunities available here! Enjoy your visit, you can now tell someone you’ve been to Hell and back!
