Pittsburgh Spirit Indoor Soccer team played in the MISL (Major Indoor Soccer League) in the Civic Arena from 1978-1980, 1981-1986. The 1980-81 season was a wash as the team was going through a reorganization. A constant money loser despite a group of devoted fans. Believe or not the Spirit out drew the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 83-84 season. That is kind of staggering to think about now days. The best two players where probably Stan Terlicki and Paul Child. Child later came back to coach the Pittsburgh Stingers. Another Pittsburgh indoor Soccer team. But that’s another cache for another day. The Spirit made the playoffs a couple of time but no championship wins.
C.O. Note: I want to a number of Spirit games while I was in high school 1978-79. I took my much younger brother to a game in the in 83 or 84. I really enjoyed these games. They where fun and had lots of fast action.
