The Danbury Museum and Historical Authority acquires, preserves, exhibits and interprets Danbury’s past. Situated in downtown Danbury, the museum preserved the John and Mary Rider House (c.1785), the Dodd Hat Shop (c.1790), the Marian Anderson Studio, the old King Street Schoolhouse, the Little Red Schoolhouse and the Charles Ives Birthplace. There is also Huntington Hall, a modern exhibit building, which contains the museum offices and a research library.
The museum and historical society are very active with ongoing and special events, various exhibits and educational programs. They host guided tours on Saturdays and have set up the self-guided “Museum in the Streets” for those walking in historic downtown Danbury.
In addition to the various buildings, the grounds have a lovely garden cared for by the Danbury Garden Club. In the garden are several cornerstones of historical buildings in Danbury as well as some plaques of interest.
The cache itself is pretty much a park and grab, but check out the garden and stop in to see what else is going on. The cache is available 24/7 but the office is open Tuesday to Saturday 10-4.
Log only cache, BYOP, cache is not in the stone wall, no need to disrupt anything. Please close up securely.
