Geocache Description:

PLEASE NOTE Dunblane is private property. Please respect the owner’s privacy and do NOT damage the garden, it is not in there.

The regal Italianate villa Dunblane, on Jackson St, is Sunbury's second mansion.

It was built in 1893 for then retiring businessman Peter Eadie, who ran the neighbouring Ball Court Hotel and a grocery store near Deep Creek Bridge.

Built on a hilltop overlooking the town it was once set in acres of gardens

Peter Eadie arrived in Sunbury in the early 1860’s with his brothers Robert and John. Peter was said to be a stone-cutter, Robert a carpenter and John who had originally been a miller in Scotland. Together they built a mill on the banks of Jackson’s Creek and later built the long demolished Commercial Hotel in Macedon Street.

It is possible Peter’s brother Robert may have designed Dunblane.

Peter was prominent in local affairs and a councillor with the Bulla Shire and its president in 1880/81

Agnes Eadie was born in Sunbury and lived most of her 101 years at the family home ‘Dunblane’. Agnes was the first woman in Sunbury to record her vote and the first woman in Sunbury to reach 100 years.

Enjoy.
