Geocache Description:

This cache was originally hidden for the 2015 NEO GeoPoker Run event and was placed with permission from Punderson State Park.

Congratulations to .GROSSY. for the FTF!

This cache will take you on a short hike on an extension of the Huron Trail. This is a letterbox hybrid, so there will be a stamp and inkpad in the cache.
Please do not remove them!

The actual cache container IS hidden at the posted coordinates, but to make this a little more fun, I have also provided letterbox clues so that you may hunt for this cache as a true letterbox if desired. Although it is not required, I would appreciate a note in your find log telling me whether you found the cache with your GPSr or using the letterbox clues, or maybe a little of both.

The short extension trail where the cache is hidden extends from the Chalet parking area over to the main park road, where you can cross and continue hiking on the actual Huron Trail if you wish. About 400 feet east of this trailhead, there is a very similar looking trailhead that leads to the Archery Trail. Do not confuse these two trails or you may get straight to the point! The Archery Trail is a one-way trail used for bow and arrow target practice. It seems to become very popular just before hunting season.

If you have done letterboxing before, be sure to bring your stamp and book along. The letterbox clues are below, and don't forget to check the inside of the cache lid for the coordinates to the Joker Micro cache (GC64AGT)!

Punderson State Park is open to the public from 6 am to 11 pm. While caching after dark is allowed, please be sure to exit Punderson by 11 pm when the park closes.

Letterbox Clues

For the purposes of these instructions, consider a “pace” to be a single step with either foot, while walking in a brisk manner. This distance can vary for each person depending on their size and gait, but a single pace should be roughly 2.5 feet.

From the south end of the parking lot, you should be able to see an opening in the woods if you look to the south. Find the single tree that stands alone in the grass at the entrance to this wooded area and line yourself up with it, facing south.

Follow the trail and take 100 paces until you are even with a small cut stump about 1.5 to 2 feet high on your left (east) that is very close to the edge of the trail. You may need slightly more or less than 100 paces to get there. When I walked briskly, it was almost exactly 100 paces. Walking slowly required 110 paces.

From the stump continue along the trail and take 20 to 23 paces until you are even with a large tree on your left (east).

As you look east, there will be another large tree a short distance away that will line up with the first tree. Look even farther east and you will see a third tree about 75 feet away in a small clearing. The three trees may not line up exactly, but pretty close.

Head east to the third tree in the clearing and look to the base of that tree on the east side. There you will find the letterbox cache.

Good luck!
