Der "Kastanienbaum der hundert Pferde" verdankt seinen Namen der Legende, im 13. Jhd. habe Königin Johanna I. von Anjou mit ihrem gesamten Gefolge Schutz vor einem Unwetter gesucht und unter den extrem weit ausladenden Ästen auch gefunden. Zwar besteht die berühmte Kastanie aus mehreren Stämmen, doch versichert man vor Ort, es handle sich wirklich nur um einen einzigen Baum, der sich erst im Laufe der Jahrhunderte geteilt habe.
Im verzweigten Astwerk soll man mit etwas Phantasie verschiedene Tiere wie eine Eule oder ein Krokodil erkennen können. Ob der Baum nun wirklich 2.000 oder gar 4.000 Jahre alt ist, wie man es in Sant Àlfio ebenfalls gern erzählt, mag dahingestellt sein. Der "größte Baum der Welt", zu dem ihn ein lokalpatriotischer Prospekt einmal erklärt hat, ist er nun aber wohl doch nicht.
