This is one of a series of caches in tribute to one of the longest running songwriting duos ever. Elton John and Bernie Taupin have been creating music for parts of six decades now. One of the first dates with my now wife was an Elton John concert. And one of the things that I have recently knocked off my bucket list was a visit to Las Vegas to see Elton in his Million Dollar Piano show at Caesar's Palace. Elton no longer performs there, and now has embarked on his three year touring finale before retiring from the road.
I thought that using the studio albums as cache names would provide good variety in this series.
This is the twenty first studio album recorded and released by Elton John in June of 1988. It was his self-proclaimed comeback album, and his own way of fighting back against bad press. The "Reg" in Reg Strikes Back refers to John's birth name, Reginald Kenneth Dwight. In the U.S. it was certified gold in August of 1988 by the RIAA. This was the last album that bassist Dee Murray appeared on prior to his death in 1992. This is the first studio album to be recorded and released after John's throat surgery the previous year. A popular single off of this album was I Don't Wanna Go On With You Like That. The album cover (as seen on this cache page) featured costumes and props from John's collection that he decided to put up for auction.
