One of a number of caches around the town to promote the new walking trail of @ 5.5 miles, taking in existing parks, wooded areas, the existing Highway to Health route, housing estates and 2 especially constructed paths to help integrate the divided communities of Dungannon. Funded by the EU Peace III Regional Development Fund, peace and reconciliation through education and activities The trail and these caches have been designed as a walking/cycling trail, marker posts and information boards contain QR codes & NFC's which play an audio file giving historical information and facts about the Earls & Dungannon town. It’s not recommended to do the trail at night due to some anti-social people.
As this is designed as a walk/cycle trail parking coordinates have only been given for the first 2 caches
Dungannon Park as it's now known has a long history, The former headquarters of MOYPARK, a local employer until the 1980's when the local council purchased part of the estate. The main buildings were originally a stable block for the horses of Lord Ranfurly, not that you'd know that now. Its last use was as a nursing home, recently closed it's going to be accomodation/appartments but aparently its haunted. During the WWII prisoners of war were housed nearby with their billets only recently flattened,
Nowadays its a more relaxing place having a 13 acre lake, football pitches, walks and allotments for locals. The home grounds of Dungannon Cricket Club and a newly extented caravan park.
The cache is a round magnetic container, near the wooden post, please watch out for muggles as you feel your way underneath
