Bond 13 - Octopussy Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Walkabout 44: The site is no longer accessible due to park construction! I am archiving the cache and will place a new and different Bond 13 once things have stabilized in this area. Where there was once a walkway there is now just a large hole in the ground.

Movie #: 13

Title: Octopussy

Year: 1983

Bond: Roger Moore

Villain: Kamal Khan, played by Louis Jourdan

Woman: Octopussy herself (Maud Adams). Maud is the only actress to play two main Bond women; she also played Scaramanga’s girl friend Andrea Anders in The Man with the Golden Gun.

Song: All Time High, performed by Rita Coolidge

Memorable characters: Mishka and Grieshka, knife throwers who worked for Octopussy’s Circus.

Memorable stunt: Bond flies a plane sideways through a closing barn door in the opening sequence to evade a heat seeking missle.

Memorable gadget: Miniature microphone hidden in a Faberge egg

Memorable quote: Q, upon learning that Bond has gone to Octopussy’s Island: James Bond on an island populated exclusively by women? He’ll be there until dawn.

There was some surprise at the name of this film when it came out, but it was actually one of the original Ian Fleming titles. The producers almost hired James Brolin to play Bond, but with Sean Connery coming back in the rival (and unofficial) Never Say Never Again, it was felt that they needed Roger Moore as an established character. Both films were actually quite successful even though they came out within a few months of each other.
