Fritsch Holzer is a significant historical site for all those around Hawthorn. In 1883 Augustus Fritsch and the Holzer brothers formed the Upper Hawthorn Brick Factory. Employed in the company were around 50 people, allowing the factory to produce around 250,000 bricks every week. These bricks were sold and used all over Victoria.
In 1972 the local council bought the area and used it for landfill all the way up to 1986. After that it became a waste transfer station until 1989. The space then had six years of resting to allow it to settle down adequately. The council, along with the Department of Employment Education and Training and the Rotary Club of Hawthorn, renovated the land to create the wonderful park that we have today!
The Junction Skatepark is a kind of social hub for young people. Many come to ride their skateboard, scooter or BMX as well as socialise with others. It often has a YMCA employee on site to look after the place and even holds many events such as competitions, skate classes and family fun days. This recreational area has brought the community together greatly.
The cache is a small, black Systema container. You may need to enter the garden to retrieve it but luckily there is no longer anything to trample. Be careful nonetheless. Please also replace the cache in exactly the same spot you found it in. Inside is a logbook, pencil and a couple of trinkets.
Congratulations to leo&ninabo for FTF
