In our little suburb of Gonubie, we are privileged to have a number of green breathing spaces spread throughout the suburb. Open spaces that allow us the chance to stop, take a breath and remember nature and its beauty that can be so easily missed in the hustle and bustle of daily life. This is series of geocaches that will take you to a number of these green breathing spaces in the area.
If you visit these areas at the right time of year you will see an amazing variety of wild flowers that grow here. Also be on the lookout birdlife, including Gonubie’s resident family of crowned cranes, which frequent these areas. Please be aware of muggles who may be walking their dogs or using these areas as thoroughfare.
At GZ you will see two sections of field. The larger side is frequented by the local crowned cranes and the smaller side is a preferred breeding area ground laying birds including kiewiet (Crowned lapwing/Crowned plover) and dikkop (spotted thick-knee) ; the cache is on the smaller side. Please keep to the path as far as possible to ensure you don’t disturb possible nesting spots.
