Geocache Description:

This cache has been placed by the Department of Conservation as part of Conservation Week (1-8 November) 2015. The cache was meant to be removed soon after Conservation Week 2015 ended but it became so popular we have kept maintaining it!

Ulva Island is one of New Zealand's few open island sanctuaries - a place where native plants and birds can live in a safe environment and the public can enjoy them. The majority of Ulva Island (around 260 ha) is part of Rakiura National Park and is managed by the Department of Conservation. The remainder of the island (just under 8 ha) at Post Office Bay is privately owned.

Please help to keep Ulva Island rat and weed free:

-Check your clothes and boots for seeds

-Check your boat for rats

-Check and re-pack your bag before you leave for Ulva Island

Start the track at Post Office Bay and make your way toward West End Beach (45 minutes). Take the time to stop and look around as this is when you will be most likely to see rare birds no longer seen on Stewart Island/Rakiura or the mainland.

Cache is a small Sistema container (replaced 21.02.2017) and contains a log book and pencil.
