This cache has been placed by the Department of Conservation as part of Conservation Week (1-8 November) 2015!

Loveloch Bush is a must visit forested area easily accessible to all. It is a peaceful place close to the city that offers an immersive bush experience with lots of nature to notice.

Seek….

  • Walk through the forest
  • Look at the layers in the forest
  • Listen out for native bird song
  • exit bush look under just off the roadf

Fun Facts:

  • This bush is regenerative bush meaning native vegetation (trees & plants) are being allowed to grow back after previously being cut down
  • Look carefully at the bush, you should be able to see the different layers of vegetation

 

  • The tallest trees are Kānuka it forms the layer known as the canopy.
  • Next comes the sub canopy layer made up mainly of a variety of plant types known as broadleaf, named for their characteristic wide leaves
  • Underneath is the shrub layer and on the ground you can see ferns and other low growing plants
