This cache is placed in conjunction with the Set in Stone Historic Cemetery Tour. This is intended to become an annual event. This hide is placed in an area where many of the personalities who helped shape Ponca City are resting.
Lewis Haines Wentz came to Ponca City to check on investment interests and stayed. He owned the largest one-man oil company in the world in the 1920s. On the way to this cache notice the Military Memorial stone in the center of the intersection in memory of all soldiers. During World War II BritishRoyal Air Force and U.S. Army Air Force pilots attended flight training at the Darr School of Aeronautics northwest of town. Some of their graves are located south east of the Military Memorial next to a flag pole. Directly west of it is the Lew Wentz mausoleum.
