The Monmouthshire Show is the largest rural and country show (1 day) in Wales and had it's origins way back in the 1790's as a ploughing match. It began proper as the Monmouth Cattle Show in 1857 and gained a permanant place in the Cattle Market on Chippenham Fields in 1876 and continued that way up until the start of the First World War when it took a break during the war years, and re-started in 1919 as the Monmouthshire County Show. It took another break during the Second World War and re-started again in 1946, this time on Vauxhall Fields where it stayed until 2007 when it moved to this current site on Redbrook Road.
Numerous other events take place on this site throughout the year from stunt shows to school cross-country events too.
The cache is intended as an easy find to enable a cache and dash style, with a place to pull up your car right next to the gate entrance to the showground and the kissing-gate entrance to the footpath on which the cache is placed. It should be accessible to all too, but you will of course be only about 15 foot from the road so please be aware of this with children
